Selection Procedure
(Sponsored Programme)
The selection of candidates for admission to
research programs is by an interview to
be held at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore during the period 4 -
10 June 2011.
The number of candidates called for interview
will depend on the number of vacancies available in each department.
Short listing for Interview
For admission to Research Programme [Ph D / M Sc(Engg)] in Engineering Faculty
·
Candidates
with ME / M Tech / M Sc(Engg)
or an equivalent degree including MBA (post BE / B Tech) will be short-listed
for interview for Ph D programmes based on their
academic performance (including their past performance in the national entrance
tests, if qualified).
·
Candidates
with BE/ B Tech/ M Sc or an equivalent degree should qualify in any one
of the following tests given below; from a to h under
sub-section 1.5.1.2. They will be short-listed for interview based on their
performance in the qualifying test.

Candidates
with BE/B Tech or equivalent degree who have not qualified in any of the
national tests mentioned below; from a to h under sub-section 1.5.1.2, but
possess an excellent academic records right from 10th Standard
onwards will be considered to limited number of
seats for admission to Ph D programmes. The shortlisting of
such candidates for interview is based on their academic performance in 10th,
12th examinations and BE/B Tech or equivalent exams at the current
stage.
For
admission to Ph D Programme in Science Faculty
All the candidates who apply to Ph D programmes in Science Faculty will have to qualify in one
of the national entrance tests given below from a to h. They will be
shortlisted for interview based on their performance in the national entrance
test.
(a) IISc Entrance Test 2011
(b) Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering(GATE) - 2010 or
2011
(c) Joint CSIR-UGC NET for JRF 2009 or 2010 (with a valid
certificate as on 1st of August 2011)
(d) UGC NET for JRF 2009 or 2010 (with a valid certificate as on 1st of August 2011)
(e)
ICMR JRF 2010 (with a valid certificate as on 1st
of August 2011) - for the
departments of
BC, MD, ES, MC, and MB.
(f) DBT JRF 2010 (with a valid certificate as on 1st of August 2011)
- for the
departments of
BC, MD, ES, MC, and MB.
(g) NBHM 2011 (with a valid
certificate as on 1st of August 2011)- for the department of MA only.
(h) JEST 2011 - for the departments of PH, AP, HE, MB, IP, and SS.
Notes
(a)
The
interview letters for the short-listed candidates will be posted on IISc website https://admissions-august.iisc.ac.in at least 2 weeks in advance. Such candidates can take a print-out of the
interview letters and make necessary arrangements for attending the interview. No separate communication will be sent by post.
(b)
Candidates
called for interview have to make their own arrangements for travel and
accommodation etc.
(c)
Candidates
called for interview should bring with them attested copies of all the
transcripts (marks cards from SSLC or equivalent onwards, degree certificate of
the qualifying examination, etc.) and produce them before the interview
committee, failing which they will not be interviewed.
(d)
Candidates
belonging to SC/ST category should bring the original caste/tribe certificate,
issued by a competent authority for purposes of verification.
(e)
Candidate
belonging to Physically-Handicapped and Kashmiri-Migrant categories should
produce the originals of the appropriate certificates, issued as per Government
of India rules.
(f)
The
offer letter for the selected candidates will be posted on IISc
website https://admissions-august.iisc.ac.in during the third week of June
2011. They can download the offer letter
and make necessary arrangements including payment of fees etc. No separate
communication will be sent to you by post.
(g)
Candidates
admitted to the Research program should report to the Institute for
completing admission formalities on 28.07.2011. The session commences on
01.08.2011.
(h)
At
the time of joining, candidates should have completed all the requirements for
the award of the qualifying degree including all examinations, dissertation
projects, viva-voce, etc.
(i)
Only
candidates who produce all the mark sheets and degree certificates (original or
provisional) issued by the University Authority will be given regular
admission.
(j)
Candidates
who are awaiting results but have completed all the formalities for the award
of a degree should produce at the time of joining, a Course-Completion
Certificate, issued by the (The Principal/Registrar). Such candidates will be
given only provisional admission, which will be regularized on producing their marks sheets and,
degree certificates (original, or provisional) etc., issued by the Head of the
Institution/University Authority on or before 31 October 2011, failing which the provisional admission stands
cancelled.
(k)
Candidates
who are given provisional admission are eligible for a scholarship only on regularisation of admission (on production of the required
documents). They will be paid a scholarship with retrospective effect, i.e.,
from the date of joining.
